Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Epsom... and Nationwide!

I am sorry to anyone I have not responded to, please be aware that I am unwell at the moment and I will get back to you when I am working again.

Once again, my apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

Hello! My name is Alison Pryor and I bid you a warm welcome to my website. I have been practising Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for over ten years now and have seen with my own eyes time after time how this proven and effective therapy can help those who may be having difficulty in dealing with a whole host of emotional issues.

At its core, CBT is all to do with the way we react to life’s problems and tribulations. How often in the past have you been dealt a blow in your personal life that has all but overwhelmed you to such a degree that you could see no realistic way of dealing with it? The trouble with us is that we are in effect psychologically pre-programmed to react in a certain way to events that we look upon, quite unrealistically, as being insurmountable.

Every time we face another formidable problem, new life is breathed into those old fears and insecurities, themselves generated by situations that occurred in the past. They in turn feed willingly on the negative aspects of the problem, which inevitably results in a deeply pessimistic outlook. And so it goes on, time and time again. But believe me, it doesn’t have to be like that...

There’s an old Chinese proverb that goes something like: “Trouble is a tunnel we pass through, not a brick wall we bang our head against.” That’s not a bad way of looking at it. The great thing about CBT is that it not only helps us to respond calmly and rationally to the immediate situation, but its effects are also long-lasting and ensure that we are forearmed to meet other situations we’re bound to encounter in the future. It’s an active therapy in which the client and therapist work together to discover ways of challenging those thoughts that tend to resurrect feelings of being inadequate, trapped in a situation we’re powerless to deal with, overwhelmed and ultimately defeated.

The good news is that CBT is easy to understand and helps us see with greater clarity the connection between fearful thoughts, negative emotions and how they impinge upon our mental wellbeing, devastating our ability to cope. Treatment usually involves a short-term programme of 6 to 12 sessions, which take place at my premises within the Natural Health Clinic on South Street, Epsom (just off the High Street and easy to find). Treatment is flexible in its application. There is no standard template: every client will undergo a mode of therapy best suited to their personality and their current circumstances.

I hold face-to-face sessions on four (soon to be five) days a week between 10.00am and 1.30pm. But you don’t have to live in Epsom to benefit, because I also offer a special ‘therapy by telephone’ service on certain evenings between 8.00 and 10.00pm. The only requirement needed to sign up is that clients are aged 18 and over. All therapy, face-to-face or over the phone, is of course undertaken in complete confidence.

I have studied and worked tremendously hard over the past decade to make sure that the service I offer is of the highest order. In the process I have earned a BSc and a Graduate Diploma in Psychology plus an M.Sc in counselling Psychology. I am also a member of the British Psychological Society. I have successfully treated not only clients who come to me direct, but many others referred on by hospitals and other agencies dealing with troubled young people and those who have succumbed to alcohol dependency (I do sometimes see this in clients who are suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder or finding it hard to cope with bereavement).

Today, therefore, I am more than eager to pass on the benefits of my training and experience to those in real need of help and who may be struggling with the everyday problems and adversities of modern life. If that category might include you, why not get in touch? You can do so by calling me at the Natural Health Clinic on 01372 742158, or ringing me direct on my mobile number, 07799 623507. If you prefer, Contact Me direct through this website.

Remember: It’s never too late to take that small, seemingly insignificant step that will nonetheless lead you to fundamentally change the way you look at life. The reward is well worth striving for: renewed strength and confidence not just for today, but for all your tomorrows.
